Terminal 1 Expansion Enters the Home Stretch
The expansion of Terminal 1 at Munich Airport is progressing according to schedule and is now entering its final phase. Selected members of the media recently had the opportunity to gain a first-hand impression during an exclusive site visit.
With the new pier, a forward-looking processing building is being created for non-Schengen traffic at Terminal 1, providing capacity for up to six million passengers per year. “Here, we are not only creating additional capacity, but also setting a new standard in quality and comfort for our passengers,” emphasized Jost Lammers, CEO of FMG, during the site visit.
With a length of approximately 360 meters, the pier extends into the western apron and comprises a total floor area of around 95,000 square meters. The extension will allow up to twelve smaller aircraft or six wide-body aircraft to be handled simultaneously. Across six levels, three of which are dedicated to passenger processes, state-of-the-art processing areas are being developed, including centralized security screening, spacious waiting areas, commercial spaces, as well as quiet and relaxation zones. Following a trial operation over the coming months, commissioning is scheduled for the first half of 2026.
