Grand opening of the new Rheydt district library
This morning, the doors of the new Rheydt District Library, located on the ground floor of the former Karstadt building on Rheydt Market Square in Mönchengladbach, opened for the first time. Following the ceremonial opening speech by Lord Mayor Felix Heinrichs, EWMG Managing Director Stefan Anspach, Department Head Yilmaz Holtz-Ersahin and Library Director Arno van Rijn, amongst others, addressed the numerous invited guests, before the library was officially opened to all residents in the afternoon with a packed programme of events.
In just ten months, the EWMG and sop architekten have converted the premises of the former department store in a resource-efficient manner, transforming them into a modern, energy-efficient and fully accessible library with reading and study areas, a gaming lounge and many other facilities – creating an open, inclusive space for all residents.
