Construction starts at Messe Düsseldorf
With today’s first symbolic cut of the spade, Mayor of Düsseldorf and Messe Düsseldorf Supervisory Board Chairman Thomas Geisel, Werner M. Dornscheidt, Messe Düsseldorf Executive Board Chairman, Thomas Kleine-Kalmer, General Manager of major projects at general contractor Köster and Helmut Oberholz (sop) gave the starting signal for work on the Neue Messe Süd.
The project includes a new southern entrance complete with imposing forecourt, a multi-functional conference area and a new Exhibition Hall 1. The centrepiece of the design, visible from some distance away, is an over-dimensioned 7,800m² canopy of translucent woven glass fibre that will mark the new entrance and reinforce the Trade Centre’s location facing the city between the Rhein and the Nordpark.
