14.04.2026 | The new Terminal 1 Pier

Grand opening at Munich Airport

The new Terminal 1 pier was opened yesterday with a formal ceremony at Munich Airport, attended by, among others, the Bavarian Minister-President Dr Markus Söder, Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder, the Bavarian Finance Minister and Chairman of the Airport’s Supervisory Board Albert Füracker, Dr Christian Scharpf, Head of the Department of Labour and Economic Affairs for the City of Munich, Jost Lammers, Chair of the Management Board of Munich Airport, and numerous guests from the worlds of politics, business and aviation were in attendance.

The approximately 360-metre-long concourse extends into the West Apron and covers – including an area within Arrivals Module B – a total area of around 95,000 m². The minimalist, deliberately understated architecture draws inspiration from the airport’s existing buildings and translates their key design elements into a modern aesthetic. Thanks to the compact and flexible design, with which sop architekten and JSK Architekci, in collaboration with SSF Ingenieure and Schüßler-Plan as a joint venture, emerged victorious in an international design competition in 2017, the new pier can be easily adapted to changing requirements in the future.
