Football with added value: The new ‘8 Grad’ building for German Bundesliga team Borussia Mönchengladbach offering a range of attractions and services for fans and other visitors on match days and at other times.
The new building at the Borussia Park, which plugs directly into the stadium structure, accommodates a 4-star H-Hotel, the Club’s new museum, an 800m² ‘Fohlen-Welt’ fan shop, a sports rehabilitation and fitness centre complete with treatment rooms and the Club’s administrative offices.

This 15,000m² building reconfigures the area and access routes surrounding the stadium and evens out the various traffic flows on match days – visitors, players, stewards, TV and press crews. Restrained in formal terms its slanting shape brings to mind the Borussia diamond of the Club’s logo, angled towards the training ground and generates spatial tension. Football matches continued to be played throughout the building process.
