Third prize for the international "Colonius Nord" competition
sop architekten, together with landscape architects Kraftraum, were awarded the third prize for their design of a sustainable office tower on Cologne's Inner Green Belt, prevailing over numerous internationally renowned architectural firms. The challenging, two-stage, international and closed competition for the "Colonius Nord" development was organised by the City of Cologne and Art Invest Real Estate.
The design is that of two facing buildings of different heights with chamfered edges. The edges consist of two, 20-metre-high planted triangles that create an opening towards the park and lead pedestrians through a passageway lined with restaurants and retail.
On one side of the building, large cut-outs in the façade create space for generous, planted outdoor areas that ensure a high-quality working environment.
