Locations for the new building of the „Deutsche Oper am Rhein”
With a design for the southern end of Königsallee, sop architekten suggested an alternate location for a new building for the “Deutsche Oper am Rhein” in Düsseldorf. The large performance hall of the Opera House would be similar to its surrounding buildings in terms of height and shape. It would blend harmoniously into the listed Königsallee ensemble, making use of the flair of Düsseldorf's prime boulevard, the green area on Graf-Adolf-Platz and the connection to public transport. With its sculptural entrance, it would form a new, urban entrance for Königsallee and the city center of Düsseldorf and set a landmark in the heart of the city as a sustainable building with lots of greenery and public uses.
