New beacon at the Theodor-Heuss Bridge in Düsseldorf
Urban planning has begun for the site of the old post office at Uerdinger Strasse in Düsseldorf. At the foot of the Theodor-Heuss-Bridge, the northern entrance to the city center, sop architekten plans a high point around and over an existing building owned by Deutsche Telekom. It is divided into four panes and depicts a mega structure as a design element in its facades. The staggered building heights are based on the existing buildings along the street. Public uses such as a café, restaurant, bookshop and library are integrated on the ground and first floors to activate the urban environment. The existing facade, plaza, courtyard as well as roof terraces will be covered in greenery.
