Recognition for University of Wuppertal’s new V/W buildings

The new buildings housing the departments of Chemistry, Biology and Engineering Sciences at Wuppertal University have been recognised by the Wuppertal office of the German Architects Association (BDA), who have granted it their Good Building Award. Completed in 2017, this teaching facility completes the master planning exercise for the University’s main site and forms a striking entrance to its Grifflenberg campus. It owes its eye-catching appearance to the topography of the site itself, which slopes 20m from highest to lowest point. Divided into two structures, the new build projects beyond a basement level built into the slope, providing the university with a landmark building that is visible from afar.
