Extension of the Congresshalle Saarbrücken
The design for the extension of the Congress Center in Saarbrücken received an honorable mention in the international architectural design competition. The design complements the existing structures without competing with the existing listed building, creating an added value in the urban space with the city balcony. The extension building is divided by a glass joint and a cantilevered canopy. Its facade partly clad in copper sheet homogenises the appearance of the new and the listed building. Wide staircases connect the new town square with the existing structures and lead toward new green spaces, connection to the Bürgerpark (Citizen’s Park) and form a component in the climate-friendly conversion of the city.
