Messe Düsseldorf celebrates its anniversary

50 years ago, the first trade fair started at the exhibition center in Düsseldorf-Stockum. The fairgrounds, designed by architect Heinz Wilke, was one of the most modern in Europe and made a significant contribution to the success of Düsseldorf as a city of trade fairs.
Since the year 2000, the site has been revitalized according to a master plan designed by sop architekten. The plan includes a northern extension completed in 2004 with a new entrance, subway station and new exhibition halls 8a and 8b as well as the revitalization of halls. The new south exhibition center “Neue Messe Süd” opened at the end of 2019 with a representative Plaza. The new entrance and convention hall leads to the multifunctional, column-free “Exhibition Hall 1”. With its new southern entrance and a polygonal canopy between the Rhine and North Park, Messe Düsseldorf now has an address that faces the city and is visible already from the nearby Rhine River.
